Samus' Abilities

Illustrate your favorite ability of Samus', otherwise known as a "Power Up". It can be anything from the Grapple Beam and morph ball to the Wave Beam and Spin Ball. She's got a ton of them, so start thinking of your faves!



-Samus, of course, must be present in your picture. (unless it's a first person view, but even then you'll probably include an arm canon)

- You can draw Samus using multiple abilities at the same time if you want.

-Do NOT make up an ability. Let's save that for another contest.

- Examples of abilities (you don't have to pick from this list. This is just to help get the ol' memory going!)
------ Grapple Hook
------ Jump Boots, space jump, etc.
------ Morph Ball, Boost Ball, etc.
------ Missiles
------ Charge Canon
------ Screw Attack
------ Beams (Wave, ice, plasma, etc.)
------ Visors (heat, xray, echo, etc.)
------ Speed Booster

- Preferably, a suit won't count as a new ability unless you draw it doing something special (like how a gravity suit can help Samus reach new heights under water)

- Preferably all abilities illustrated should be from actual Metroid games, and not from ones like Smash Brothers. But, if Smash Brothers is the only game you've played with Samus in it, then go ahead. (But seriously, go play some real Metroid games. You don't know what you're missing!)

-You can have other Metroid characters in the picture if you want. But, they all must be canon. No fan characters.

- You can draw in any style, any medium. Fan fictions are also allowed.

- Doll makers or bases are not allowed. You must make your art all on your own.

- 3D modeling programs are allowed, but only if you made the models yourself. Otherwise it's unfair to everyone else if you're using someone else's work for your entry.

- For Fictions: For fiction writers: Write a fiction with an emphasis on Samus' many abilities, or even a specific one, OR even her adventures acquiring one. Your choice!

- Keep it PG13. Nothing vulgar will be allowed (including fetishes). No extreme gore (light violence is okay). No nipples poking through clothing, no boobs the size of Texas. You get the picture.

- Your entry must be one made for this contest. No old deviations are allowed. No deviations made before [08-12-15] will be accepted.

- Please mention this contest in your description! If you don't I won't be sure whether or not you actually meant to enter your deviation in the contest folder. If you don't mention your artwork is for this contest in the description, I'll remove it from the contest folder.

- You can enter if you're not a member. Just be sure to mention this contest in your description and give us a link!

- NO tracing, and TRY NOT TO copy. I've seen like, every Metroid art out there, and if you trace, your entry will not be allowed. And anyway, if you copy you're not going to win. Nobody ever votes for a trace.

- NO smudging of official art to make it look painted. Just... don't use official art, please. You have artistic minds, you can do it!

- No fan pairings.

- You may have up to three entries.

- When your entry is done, submit it to our Contest 17 - Samus' Abilities folder in the gallery! And also comment with a link to it in this blog. That way if you accidentally submitted it to the wrong folder, we can still catch it and put it in the right one.



The winners of the contest will be determined by a panel of judges. If we make it to 21 entries, we'll also add a popular vote section for three additional winners.

Also, if you're going to be a judge, you're still allowed to make an entry, but of course, you will not be up for winning.

[X] Effort. It's REALLY easy to tell when someone puts a lot of effort into their work.

[X] Originality - Be creative and think outside the box.

[X] Appeal - don't just draw people standing around doing nothing. Make a scene! Put in some interaction. Make it fun for us to look at.
